NCS launches SURF training programme to nurture ICT talents in Singapore

Zafirah Salim | Aug. 21, 2015
In line with Singapore’s Smart Nation and SkillsFuture initiatives, and as part of IDA’s Company-Led Training programme, NCS will train 100 Singaporean entrant-level professionals.

Strengthening the Singaporean core

Speaking at the launch event held at NCS Hub yesterday, Lim Swee Say, Minister for Manpower, emphasized that the ICT landscape in Singapore is not one that is dominated by foreigners.

According to him, Singapore has about 150,000 infocomm professionals across various sectors nationwide. Out of this figure, two-thirds are Singaporeans.

Lim went on to highlight two key priorities: Firstly, to increase the number of Singaporeans in the ICT sector; and secondly, to improve the level of expertise as Singapore transforms beyond an "intelligent island" to a Smart Nation.

"The infocomm profession is one that offers good job, good pay and good prospects. As we strive towards our vision of a Smart Nation, I hope we will all work together as a nation to ensure that the engine behind the train on this important journey will be one that is made in Singapore with a strong Singaporean core," he concluded.
