Mozilla names Brendan Eich, creator of JavaScript, as CEO

Co-founder of Mozilla Foundation takes helm, faces 'interesting strategic challenges' to forge future of browser maker, analyst says.

Eich, 51, is best known as the creator JavaScript, the popular Web scripting language he came up with almost 20 years ago.

"Brendan is a strong technical leader and it may be what is needed to navigate the rough waters going forward," Hilwa said.

Firefox has a usage share of about 17.7% among desktop browsers, according to the latest data from Internet analytics company Net Applications.
