According to University Malaysia of Computer Science & Engineering (UniMy), it is the first global training centre for Japanese firm Anet's web-based videoconferencing system called Fresh Voice.
During the announcement in Putrajaya, Malaysia, boutique IT university UniMy's vice chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab. Hamid said Fresh Voice, a SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) system, not only offered full HD voice and video, desktop and document sharing and the ability to invite and schedule conferences but also connected to other conferencing systems such as Polycom, Tandberg and Sony.
"Nowadays, video conferencing systems are widely used in a variety of industries including medical, banking and of course education amongst others," said Prof Dr Khairuddin.
"Therefore, in light of this, as the first ever global training centre, UniMy has adopted the Fresh Voice system in our campus and we look forward to enrich UniMy's faculty members' and students' teaching and learning experiences respectively through collaboration exercises with remote classrooms and accessibility to subject matter experts nationwide as well as around the globe," he said.
Prof Dr Khairuddin said the university has formed this partnership as part of an ongoing industry collaboration strategy to help the advancement of its students and academic staff,
"Apart from the education sector, we are also planning to introduce this system to other industries especially to the government agencies," he added. "Therefore, we are planning to start training sessions of the system for government agencies in April where a software engineer from Anet, who doubles as a visiting lecturer and our fully trained staff will be on hand to conduct and facilitate these sessions."
The two partner organisations also intend to collaborate on research & development (R&D) efforts to develop a customised web-based video conferencing system to tailor to the local market's needs in the near future.
