IT roles have taken out the top five positions in Trade Me's latest quarterly jobs report.
IT architects topped the rankings with average annual salaries of $147,340, followed by IT project managers at $136,382, IT data warehousing & business intelligence at $131,563, IT managers at $131,356 and IT functional consultants at $129,511, more than twice the national average salary of $61,095.
However the bad news for IT people was that the number of IT jobs on offer fell sharply: down 10.5 percent from the same quarter last year. Even bigger falls were experienced in banking and finance, down 35.5 percent, and in science and technology, down 30.8 percent. Architecture, construction and roading, and legal saw the biggest job increases, with listing up 37.3, 33.4 and 30.9 percent respectively.
Men dominated the IT jobs market. Trade Me Jobs spokesman Jeremy Wade said: "We looked at all the applications from our members over the past three months and in sectors like engineering and IT, more than 80 per cent of the applications are from men.
"Public sector roles and Banking & Finance were evenly split between male and female applicants while more than 70 per cent of applications for roles in education and office administration are from women."
The results were based on analysis of some 65,000 jobs listed on Trade Me's site.
