A former staff of IBM Singapore is back, this time to take the helm.
Janet Ang is back in IBM Singapore to take on the role as managing director, taking over from Teresa Lim, who is taking a leave of absence.
Ang brings with her 20 years of management experience, seven of which were spent recently in China, working for IBM China and Lenovo. She first joined IBM Singapore in 1982 as a systems engineer.
Ang said her comeback in IBM Singapore is good timing as Singapore gears up after showing resilience in surviving another economic crisis.
Said Ang: "I am thrilled to be returning to IBM Singapore at such an exciting time. Singapore's economy has emerged from the global financial crisis stronger than ever and the economic strategy is focused on deepening our nation's capabilities in research and development, innovation and sustainable urban solutions. IBM has selected Singapore as one of 20 growth markets out of over 140 around the world for focused growth and investments. These are great opportunities for IBM to work closely with the government, academia and businesses to strengthen Singapore's standing on the world stage. I look forward to leading the IBM team to play our part in the national agenda and helping our clients succeed in ways important to them."
IBM Singapore said Ang will follow through Lim's key initiatives in IBM Singapore, including the IBM Singapore Technology Park, the IBM Singapore Cloud Lab, the Asia Pacific Cloud Computing Data Centre in Singapore, Smarter Cities Research Collaboratory, IBM Singapore Software Lab, Global Services Integration Hub, and Service Science, Management and Engineering (SSME) programme.
IBM gives credit to Lim for these initiatives where IBM Singapore was able to forge stronger partnerships, and build its research and manufacturing facilities in Singapore.
Cordelia Chung, regional general manager, IBM ASEAN said: "In the last four and a half years, Teresa has worked tirelessly to help IBM Singapore build new business, bring innovative solutions to our clients and make Singapore an oft-cited Smarter City reference for IBM around the world. Through her efforts, the IBM Corporation has made new and significant investments in research and manufacturing facilities in Singapore in recent years."
