The first Alpha Startup Bootcamp in the Philippines will be set up in Cebu City on November 9 to 13, 2015 to help local startups validate their business models and viable product.

The five-day event is part of the seedPH program of the Department of Science and Technology- Information and Communication Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) to promote innovation and 'technopreneurship' in the country. This is in partnership with TechTalks.ph and Alpha Startup program owner 1337 Ventures.

The program will include customer and product development workshops, pitching, mentoring sessions, and networking sessions from thought leaders in the Southeast Asia Region. On the last day, a demo activity will be held to give startups a chance to show their outputs to key investors.

DOST-ICTO Deputy Executive Director Monchito Ibrahim said the bootcamp "will help early stage startups get off the ground by teaching them the basics of building a digital business." He added that this initiative will help address the gap in the Philippine startup ecosystem.

TechTalks.ph and 1337 Ventures see the bootcamp as an opportunity to meet potential startups that they can work with in developing startup communities locally and in other ASEAN countries.

Top startups from the bootcamp will have US$1,000 microfund and US$5,000 Amazon Web Services Credit. In addition, they can also get priority admission on funding programs of 1337 Ventures.

Interested parties can apply at http://alphastartups.co and must submit a one-minute video pitch of their product idea. The bootcamp is free but will only accept up to 50 startup founders and co-founders. The first phase of application will close on 19 October while the second phase is open until 26 October. Qualified startups will be notified on 2 November.
