Networking vendor, Extreme Networks, has named Gary Newbold to the role of sales vice president for Asia Pacific (APAC).

Based in Singapore, Newbold will helm the business in the region, including China, Korea, Australia, Japan and India.

Nancy Shemwell, global sales executive vice president of Extreme Networks, said the appointment is a leap forward for Asia Pacific since Newbold has delivered impressive performance for the Northern EMEA region.

"Tremendous achievements came in growing Extreme's presence both with the channel and our customers from education, retail, healthcare, and various service providers and Internet Exchange Connection points," she said.

Having joined Extreme Networks from 3COM in 2009, Newbold is an experienced leader with a track record of success in the network market.

The promotion comes ahead of Extreme Network's APAC Channel Partner Conference to be held in Vietnam from 12-16 August.

The conference will host hundreds of partners and be addressed by Newbold, CEO Chuck Berger and Shemwell, the company said in a statement.
