Dr. Michael Gorriz will be assuming the position of group chief information officer (CIO) at Standard Chartered from the third quarter of 2015, announced the bank in a press statement today (25 March 2015).
To be based in Singapore, Dr Gorriz will be reporting directly to the bank's incoming group chief executive, Bill Winters. He will be replacing Jan Verplancke, who has retired from his post as director of group CIO after 11 years of service with the bank.
Dr Gorriz is a physicist and engineer by background, and has progressed through specialist research and design in aerospace to a general management role in Daimler Mexico. Over the past 14 years, he has held various CIO roles with Daimler AG. He was most recently the company's vice president and CIO, where he was responsible for strategy, planning and development of all IT systems, as well as the operation of all data centres and communication networks in the company.
"I am confident that Dr Gorriz will be a fantastic addition to Standard Chartered," said Peter Sands, group chief executive. "He has the capabilities and experience to drive innovation and change in technology and operations, which are key to delivering our productivity goals and enhancing our service to clients."
