Deloitte has partnered with the Info-comm Media Development Authorityof Singapore (IMDA), the Cybser Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) in a bid to upskill the pool of cyber security professionals in Singapore.

Deloitte is a training partner of the Cyber Security Associates & Technologists Programme (CSAT) under Infocomm Media Development Authority's (IMDA) TechSkills Accelerator Initiative since February 2017.

CSAT is designed to equip IT professionals with relevant cyber security skills through On-the-Job Training (OJT) hosted by companies in the cyber security industry eco-system.

Under this three-year partnership, Deloitte will offer training and employment opportunities in cybersecurity to young IT or cyber security diploma and degree graduates.

The training and employment opportunities will also be offered to IT professionals with no cyber security experience, who have a strong interest to pursue their careers in cyber security.

"There is a worldwide shortage of cyber security professionals, Singapore included, even though they are crucial in our fight in today's cyber war," said Thio Tse Gan, Cyber Security Leader, Deloitte Singapore and Southeast Asia. "Their role is not confined to securing data and systems; they are also responsible for monitoring suspicious activity and responding to incidents. More importantly, they take the lead in strengthening and advocating the resilience needed for an organisation to return to normal business post-attack."

Internship and learning opportunities

As part of the collaboration, Deloitte will provide internship places for TP students who are working towards their diplomas in Cyber & Digital Security and Digital Forensics.

The internship will expose the students to the cyber security profession and provide practical development of the skills and concepts learned in the classroom.

Deloitte's cyber experts will also co-teach subject syllabi for TP's Cyber Security and Digital Forensics courses for fresh graduates and working adults who want to continue their education and upskill so that they can remain employable within the profession.

"We are pleased to collaborate with Deloitte to provide continuing education and training programmes in cyber security and digital forensics to fresh graduates and working adults," said Peter Lam, principal & CEO, Temasek Polytechnic. "Our students will have the opportunity to learn relevant skills from industry practitioners and experts. Such experiences will hone their skills and prepare them better for the industry."
