Hong Kong is considered a key business hub by Cable&Wireless and its clients.

Cable&Wireless Worldwide, a global provider of telecommunications services, has named a new country manager for Hong Kong, considered to be a key business hub for the company's Asia Pacific operations.

US-educated  Bhupinder Singh was appointed last month and adds the Hong Kong job to his current role as  vice president for delivery, Asia Pacific.

"Bhupinder is a senior member of the Asia management team and has worked with Cable&Wireless Worldwide in various roles for more than a decade. His appointment as the country manager of our Hong Kong office demonstrates our continued commitment to Hong Kong and allows us to better serve the mission critical communications needs of our clients there," said Mike Powell, vice president, service delivery, global markets at Cable&Wireless Worldwide.

Naming a senior company executive to head the Hong Kong office is significant as Hong Kong is also a key hub for many global businesses in banking and finance, manufacturing, and technology. Most recently, Cable&Wireless has secured a Unified Carrier Licence from the Hong Kong Telecoms Authority, which allows it to provide and operate a public internal telecoms network and sell an expanded scope of telecoms services to customers.

To support global businesses in the region, the company has also invested in expanding its network in the region with the commissioning of its own backhaul network in Hong Kong.
