Business Insights from Analytics

T.C. Seow | Sept. 27, 2011
No longer an exclusive subject of data experts, business analytics is gaining enough traction to warrant a closer look by CXOs.

I made a prediction at the beginning of this year that by the end of the year there would be at least 15 "chief analytics officers" named within companies. You really do need to have somebody who's going to lead the charge and manage if nothing else the centre of excellence, make sure that the organisation knows how important analytics is, and start to advance it within the organisations. You [have to] do it internally as well as with clients. I think there's going to be a need for it in a variety of companies.

A lot of companies have had little analytics groups and pockets but they've never given it as an enterprise resource. Once you start to view it as an enterprise resource, somebody needs to be in charge of each other. A lot of companies have had BI competency centres in the past but they tend to concentrate on reporting. So you need a little of shift from report to analytics.
