Akamai strengthens APJ team with senior appointments

Content delivery network services provider, Akamai Technologies, has recently made several significant additions to its Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) team.

Michael M. Afergan has been appointed Senior Vice President, Products, APJ. Based in Singapore, Afergan is now responsible for leading the region's product development and product management teams, designing and developing products for local markets, and overseeing product and technical engagement with customers and key partners.

According to Akamai, Afergan joined the company in 1999 as one of Akamai's first technical leaders and has since served as Senior Vice President & General Manager of the Web Experience Division, as well as Chief Technology Officer. He has also held other key roles within Akamai's Engineering and Product organizations.

Additionally, Lalitha Bhaskara has also been named as Akamai's Vice President, Corporate Development, APJ. In this new role, Bhaskara will be responsible for all corporate development and strategic partnership activities within APJ, helping the company expand its strategic presence and investments in the region.

Prior to joining the company, Bhaskara served as Head of Markets Strategy for APJ for SAP for five years, and also held roles in business development, product management and solution consulting of SAP products for 11 years.

Duncan Nursey also joins Akamai as Regional Vice President, Carriers, APJ. He has formerly held other leadership positions for companies such as Samsung, Dimension Data, ECI Telecom and EDS.

Lastly, Vaughan Woods has been appointed Regional Vice President, Sales, South Asia. He is responsible for driving Akamai's growth across ASEAN, Australia and New Zealand, leading the team in making the Internet work better for business. 

According to Akamai, Woods was formerly a venture capital incubator and consultant for start-ups. He has also held sales management positions and regional leadership roles within Asia Pacific with IBM, Rationale, 3Par, HP and BEA.

In addition to these new appointments, Akamai said that it has recently appointed a Managing Director, Markets for APJ; and has expanded offices in Australia, Japan and Korea over the last few months.
