At the heart of an urbanised environment, the issue of Big Data Management and Analytics surfaces more prominently as volumes of structured and unstructured data from information systems and devices are generated and growing exponentially. This will refer to capabilities to capture, store, search, share, analyse and visualise both structured and unstructured data (such as voice, videos, etc.), essential to make sense of data and information better and faster, to enable better decisions.
The inner or middle ring connects and transports data and information from the core to the external world. It comprises:
- Cloud provisioning - provides the means to access sensor data remotely, to distribute and to share information with multiple users over large geographical disposition.
- Machine to machine (M2M) - allow both wireless and wired devices to communicate with other devices without the manual intervention of humans.
- Security, identity access - includes a comprehensive range of security defence, including Identity & Access Management, Data Loss Prevention, cloud security, cyber security, and targeted attacks on critical infrastructure.
Ultimately, rapid urbanisation and the continual evolution of technology has spawned an entirely new market opportunity for smart systems to help businesses, governments and individuals optimise resources, engage more effectively, and take decisive actions. The challenge for governments and businesses is to meet these challenges both in the short and long term.
