Collaboration is mitigation

Cybersecurity is often seen as the sole responsibility of a department of specialists- an assumption that can be costly to individuals, companies, and entire economic sectors. Organisations that rely on IT and security companies to secure their assets risk adopting a mindset of false security, and a tendency to overlook critical vulnerabilities.

The real challenge is in embedding cybersecurity knowledge and expertise to all levels. At the organisational level, this means integrating cybersecurity into HR policies, expansion strategies, and even staff training processes. At the scale of wider economic sectors, it means sharing knowledge, resources, and expertise so that cybersecurity becomes an enabler.

Organisations need to move past the mentality that sharing threat information exposes their weaknesses. The truth of the matter is that businesses, big or small, are vulnerable to attacks. Sharing breach information strengthens the industry's defences as a whole and reduces the ability of crime syndicates to use the same tools for repeated attacks.
