How IT can close the innovation gap

Francis Thangasamy, Vice President, Advanced Services, Asia Pacific, CenturyLink | Jan. 12, 2016
Francis Thangasamy of CenturyLink discusses the challenges IT departments face when managing their IT infrastructure in-house, and how a managed service provider can become the IT team’s key partner in enhancing value within the organisation.

Engaging the right trusted managed services partner will offer enterprises with an additional avenue to learn best practices and a platform to brainstorm with the service providers' global and local experts in new technologies such as big data, disaster recovery, security, etc.

In summary, to close the skills gap between simply maintaining the status quo, and engaging in innovative projects to drive business growth, IT teams need to be able to:

  • Operate with agility and in accordance with business needs by adopting a fluid variable staffing model
  • Leverage technology experts (big data, digital transformation, etc.) through third-party service providers
  • Have a complete solution set to meet today's challenges such as cloud infrastructure, disaster recovery and data analytics.

Only once the IT department has taken care of providing that flexible staffing and infrastructure platform; can it then focus on innovation activities that drive business growth such as helping set strategy, evaluating new technologies and enabling new revenue opportunities.
