Obviously, when relocating the business still has to keep running, but a CIO should focus on ensuring this happens within the constraints imposed by the balance sheet, ensuring that the technology, applications and infrastructure have adequate support. In addition, and a point we see sometimes neglected, is ensuring the organisation beyond the IT department is on board. This includes the HR administration and ensuring continuous education on new programs (re-skilling staff) are in place, as well as making certain third-party services are available.
CIOs need to be at the table when decisions are made, so that the strategy enables banks to satisfy business aspirations efficiently, sensibly and with a long-term plan in mind.
