BLOG: Microsoft Surface naming debacle about to get worse

If rumors about 'Surface 2' and 'Surface Pro 2' are true, Microsoft better prepare to write off another $900 million.

As for the distinction between Windows RT running on some machines and Windows 8.1 Standard or Pro on the others: By the time the Best Buy clerk gets done explaining the difference — no doubt with a PowerPoint presentation — our mythical customer is already dreaming about a Nexus or iPad.

Hey, Microsoft. If you don't rename the Surface RT/2 to something that distinguishes it from the machines that run Windows, you won't have to worry about it very long. Better set aside another $900 million right now.
