According to U Mobile, it is the first telco in the country to offer SIM packs through GCH Retail (Giant) outlets nationwide, which increases the Malaysian telco's distribution channel count to more than 22,000.
Speaking on 1 August 2012, U Mobile chief executive officer Jaffa Sany Ariffin said the partnership with GCH Retail is a strategic initiative to connect with a broader consumer market.
"U Mobile prepaid SIM packs will be made available for purchase in 151 retail outlets including Giant retail outlets, Cold Storage and Mercato supermarkets in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak by the end of this year," said Jaffa, adding that U Mobile prepaid SIM packs are now available at 20 outlets within the Klang Valley. "This is in addition to customers being able to top-up at Giant outlets, a facility that has been available for some time."
"This collaboration is in line with our company's three-pronged strategy, which is to establish a quality, robust network infrastructure, strengthen the brand through innovative product offerings and widen our distribution network," he said.
"This tie-up helps us deliver the third priority in meeting customers' needs for greater accessibility and convenience to our products and services," said Jaffa. "We are indeed honoured to be partnering GCH Retail as it has some of the largest and most popular retail outlets in Malaysia. Many of our customers frequent these stores, so it makes sense that they can top-up and buy our prepaid SIM packs where they shop."
The collaboration is an expansion of the company's existing partnership with other non-traditional distribution channels including Singer, 7-Eleven, Cosway and LH Sales & Marketing.
