Cloud adoption by Malaysian small and medium enterprises will help them develop into world-class companies, according to local Web hosting provider Exabytes during the signing of a collaboration with Malaysian national ICT agency Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC).
Speaking on 26 June 2012, Exabytes chief executive officer Chan Kee Siak said the company has agreed to join MDeC's MSC (Multimedia Supercorridor) Malaysia Cloud Initiative, which would provide opportunities for local MSC status ICT small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to grow into international companies.
"What better way to go global than to link in with government initiatives such as this project that is specially developed for companies within MSC Malaysia ecosystem," Chan said.
"Exabytes will play a crucial role in supporting the programme," he said. "It is part of Exabytes' corporate objective to develop the Malaysian ICT sector in line with the maturing local market of more savvy providers and consumers."
"By making our cloud hosting and Internet infrastructure affordable via the programme, Exabytes plays an active role in advancing the state of the local businesses in their adoption of cloud computing in real business terms," said Chan.
The MSC Malaysia Cloud national initiative is part of MSC Malaysia's larger plan to have 60 online solution providers on the cloud by end 2012, 6,000 new digital enterprise by end-2015 as well as 1,500 new jobs for engineered positions by end-2015, according to MDeC chief executive officer Dato' Badlisham Ghazali.
"Cloud computing is a critical enabler for Malaysia's ICT sector and for the economy as a whole," said Badlisham. "The MSC Malaysia Cloud Initiative ties back to one of the key targets of MSC Malaysia, which is the infusion of technology across all economic sectors to drive productivity and innovation by lowering the barrier of entry for ICT companies and SMEs alike. The initiative will pave the way for cloud solutions to become more available and accessible to MSC Malaysia SMEs, and will undoubtedly make them more competitive globally."
